Live Action Production

There are times when filming is the only way to impart that very special something into a piece. Oftentimes it’s humanity. Unless you see a person actually doing, going, achieving, experiencing, or emoting, it can be hard for the audience to “get the feels.”

Our speciality of being a “one stop shop” means not only that we do the live action production, but we oversee and usher the project through all of the disciplines, ensuring that nothing is missed along the way. Our directors are engaged throughout the entire production process, ensuring that all of the nuances and details of a project are addressed as promised. We are always on the look out for how to elevate a job at all times. There is no moment where we say, “Oh that’s their problem to figure out.” We are creative, resourceful and proactive.

Live action covers a wide gamut of styles, genres and expertise: From shooting on location to on set…from working with actors to working with props…from filming assets (such as people on green,) to building out full sets…from filming stop motion miniatures to creating large scale props from a comedy gag. We can be thoughtful and resourceful about how best to produce your job, not just how to capture the visuals, but to also come up with a post plan that ensures success.

Direction

Direction
We have a number of directors on our roster from Erin Sarofsky who specializes in magic realism and main titles, to Ben Strange who is a documentarian at heart and captures the real true essence of people and The Barkers who have a bright, fun, poppy sensibility that is sure to make whatever they are shooting fly off the shelves. If something needs to be filmed then we can build the team helmand by visionaries capable of seeing the big picture while making all the granular decisions.

Remote Production

Remote Production
Whether due to a pandemic, a client that can’t travel, or even a challenged budget, remote production is a totally viable solution for getting work done. There are a lot of ways to parse this, depending on the restrictions and outcome. We may just want to have some key crew travel, or, send the talent gear and guide them through the filmmaking process. At this point we have done all of these things and have exceeded even our own expectations with the results. Give us a call and we can send you some case studies--after all, seeing is believing. Then? We can work on a plan that works with your needs, budget and schedule.

Stage Filming

Stage Filming
Filming on a stage is a great way to control environmental factors that can negatively affect production. It also gives us the ability to do VFX-driven work. Using green screens, filming plates and doing various lighting passes will always be necessities on a production that utilizes our VFX skillset. We may even build what looks like a real location as a set, as we did with our Shameless main title sequence. For that, the camera placement was so specific that we needed certain walls missing.

On Location

On Location
When you want that “real life” feeling, you really must shoot on location. This usually requires a little clean-up in post, but you really can’t beat the final look and feel. Getting an amazing camera in the hands of the right cinematographer with a passionate director who knows exactly what’s needed in the can to make the piece come together--that’s what makes it happen. The natural light at sunset, the dust motes in the air only seen in that ray of light poking in between the blinds. Those magical things. These are the intangibles that finding the right location can provide. They provide the texture and overall sensibility of the spot.

Experimental Filming

Having so many tools and tricks at our disposal means that sometimes, we get to experiment. We love to break out a fog machine and camera to see what we can cook up. Other times, we set up a stop motion set and play with materials and movements. We’ve also been known to mix in-the-box techniques with tactile materials. You never know how your project could inspire us to think outside the box.

High Speed Filming

Typically done with a phantom camera we often employ high speed filming when we shoot product shots, especially liquid. Occasionally we find other fun ways of utilizing high speed footage in our work, like that time we filmed a tattoo scene for Animal Kingdom. Filming at high speed can slow time or practically stop it. Even though this gets pricey, we absolutely love doing it - who wouldn't?

Stock Footage Curation

Stock Footage Curation
Sometimes you just don't have the time or budget to shoot. This happens, and when it does we can help curate stock imagery.
